Cottage cheese strudel

Lovely, isn't it? :) Cottage cheese (or quark, or curd cheese) strudel is one of the Hungarian specialties, and I  can say it's worth to try out! :)

It's strange that I haven't done a strudel before, because we ate a lot (of course, not home-made ones) but in  confectionaries, and in special strudel-houses. For example there is a very unique strudel house in the most popular hiking area of Budapest, in 'Normafa', which is on a small mountain , and where you have a panormic view over the city. :) Oh , my family loves that place, the pounds we lost during hiking, we gain it back double times with those strudels. :D

But this strudel I made was delicious, too. Give it a try! :)
Ingredients:
  • 500 g = 2 cups of cottage cheese/ curd cheese/ quark
  • 200 g =  0,8 cups of icing sugar
  • 2 tbsp of vanilla sugar
  • 1 tbsp of sour cream
  • oil
  • a package of strudel pastry/ strudel sheet

Preparation:

1. Blend together the cottage cheese with the icing sugar, the vanilla sugar, and the sour cream.

2. Place a wet cloth onto the table.

3. Open the strudel pastry package, and roll out the half of the pastries on the cloth.

4. Lubricate some oil on the pastry.

5. With a tablespoon, put some cream on the bottom of the pastry, in one row. Take care to leave a little space on the sides.

6. Roll the sides to the filling.

7. You should grab the cloth, and with it, you should roll the whole strudel to the other side, and cover it with the pastry.

8. Adjust the strudel, to get a nice barrel form.

9. Then roll it up.

10. Oil a baking tray, and put the strudel in it, carefully.

11. Repepat this method from 3-10. points , and get another strudel.

12. Oil the top of them, so that it will be shiney when they are ready.

13. Bake them for about 20-30 minutes, on middle degree. (130 Celsius)

You can make a sweet icing on the top of the strudels, from sour cream and icing sugar. :)

Bon appetite! :)
